Ideology is the worst of our sins. Gluttony, adultery—these things are indulgences. But ideology is what inverts the soul, destroying a man’s character. It possesses him, clouds his judgment and sets his will on a dark path. And there then becomes no antidote for the charms. For he carries this affliction only until some unfortunate act of social learning makes him re-imagine again, with either disaster having then occurred or years otherwise spent in an ignorance.
